India registered their biggest win in World Cup history by 302 runs on Thursday.

New Delhi: The Indian cricket team created history on Thursday, as they registered their biggest win in World Cup history by the margin of runs after defeating the Sri Lankan team by 302 runs.

India, batting first in the match, scored 357 runs with a loss of 8 wickets in their allocated 50 overs. Sri Lanka, who came out to chase the 358 runs target, fell flat on their face and were all-out on just 55 in 19.4 overs, giving the men in blue their biggest World Cup win.

India kept their undefeated streak at the World Cup 2023 alive as they registered their seventh straight win in the tournament and also became the first team to officially qualify for the semifinals of the ICC World Cup 2023.


Md. Shami took his 2nd 5 wicket haul in his 3rd ICC World Cup 2023 game, and with this, he became India’s most successful bowler in World Cup history with 45 wickets, going past Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath’s 44 wickets record.

Shami also broke Harbhajan Singh’s record of most 5 wickets haul in ODI cricket for India, as he completes his 4th 5 wickets haul in ODI cricket.

Viral moments of the match

The match between India and Sri Lanka was full of memorable moments for the Indian fans, some of them have also gone viral after the match.

Video of one such moment is making its rounds on the internet, when during India’s bowling, the crowd suddenly started to chant, “Kohli ko bowling do (Give bowling to Kohli).” This happened amidst the chaos Indian pacers were bringing down on the Lankan batting line-up.

Another such moment was after the post-match sessions were done, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma went up to the crowd for selfies and autographs. He was then seen giving his shoe to one of the young Indian fans, making his or her day.
