IND v SA: Shikhar Dhawan to lead India in ODIs, Mukesh Kumar, Rajat Patidar receive maiden call-up

Following a great domestic season Bengal seamer Mukesh Kumar and batter Rajat Patidar have received their maiden call-up for the national side.

New Delhi: BCCI announced the squad for the ODI series against South Africa. While the T20I side has been given rest ahead of the T20 World Cup, Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the side along with Shreyas Iyer being his deputy. Meanwhile, Iyer, Deepak Chahar and Ravi Bishnoi, who are in the reserves for the World Cup, will be playing the ODIs against the Proteas.

Following a great domestic season Bengal seamer Mukesh Kumar and batter Rajat Patidar have received their maiden call-up for the national side. Mukesh, who is currently playing Iran Cup, did not know about his selection to the squad, till he was added to the Indian team’s official WhatsApp group. The pacer took a 4-wicket haul in the first inning of the Irani Cup while he picked nine wickets in three first-class games against New Zealand A. Rajat Patidar scored 65 runs in two one-day games and hit two centuries against New Zealand A.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill and Kuldeep Yadav will be playing to prove their credential for the white-ball team and Avesh Khan is making a comeback after Asia Cup 2022. Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson have been included as the wicket keepers.

India and South Africa will play three ODIs starting on October 6 in Lucknow. The second and third matches will be played in Ranchi and Delhi on October 9 and 11 respectively.
