IND vs ENG, Test Series: Karun Nair to Joe Root, check Top 5 highest individual scores between two sides in last decade

In the fifth test match of the 2016 series, Karun Nair played a not-out 303 runs innings and became the only second Indian to score a double century in test after Virender Sehwag.

New Delhi: The India and England cricket teams are all but set to renew their test rivalry, with the start of the Anthony de Mello trophy from January 25, which will include a total of five test matches and will conclude on March 11.

Despite being held in India, the series will be an even affair, as in the past decade, the only team to beat India in a test series in India is the Three Lions from England.

Notably, meanwhile, any test series between the two sides is heavily favoured by the bowling unit of the sides, depending on the venue they are playing.

Both the teams have produced some incredible individual batting efforts from each side and today we will take a look at five individual innings of brilliance in the past decade that changed the flow of the match for their respective sides.

5] Joe Root (180*)

The then-English skipper Joe Root, during the second match of the series in 2021, played one of the best innings of his life as he scored a majestic 180* in 321 deliveries, which included a total of 14 boundaries.

The importance of Root’s innings can be understood by the fact that the second-highest scorer in that innings for England was Rory Burns with 49 runs innings.

4] KL Rahul (199)

The innings which is one of the best of KL Rahul’s career, will also be one of the most disappointing, as the star Indian player missed his well-deserved double century by just one run.

Rahul scored 199 runs in the fifth test match of the 2016 series, but despite his brilliance Rahul’s innings was overshadowed by the player number 1 in this list.

3] Joe Root (218)

When it comes to India vs England test matches in the past decade, one English batsman who has been consistent with his performances is Joe Root.

Root’s brilliance was once again on display during the first test match of the series in 2021 in India. The star English player played a magical 218 runs in the first innings, which eventually helped his team register victory in the match.

2] Virat Kohli (235)

Whenever the list of best batsmen of the last ten years is made, one name that will definitively make the cut will be the Indian batting virtuoso, Virat Kohli.

Virat’s greatness was once again on display during the first innings of the fourth test match in 2016, when the Indian star played a brilliant 235 ruins innings to take his team to a match and series win in Mumbai.

1] Karun Nair (303*)

One of the greatest innings of test cricket, which cursed the batsman’s career in its entirety.

In the fifth test match of the 2016 series, Karun Nair played a not-out 303 runs innings and became the only second Indian to score a double century in a test after Virender Sehwag.

However, Nair was dropped from the team the next series and was soon out of favour from the BCCI selectors, making this one of the biggest yet cursed innings of test cricket.
