IND vs SA, ODI Series: Indian pacers dismantles Proteas, as they finish their innings with just 116 on the board

Indian bowlers proved that their performance was not a fluke as they completely annihilated the Proteas’ batting line-up in the first ODI.

New Delhi: The Indian bowling unit, after being under the radar for their bowling efforts in the second T20I, made a strong comeback in the third and final T20I, and defended the total to level the series 1-1.

However, Indian bowlers proved that their performance was not a fluke as they completely annihilated the Proteas’ batting line-up in the first ODI match of the three-match ODI series, at Johannesburg’s New Wanderers Stadium on Sunday.

India, with the help of their deadly bowling, dismissed the whole South African innings on a small total of 116, in just 27.3 overs.

Earlier, Proteas captain Aiden Markram won the toss and opted to bat first.

Indian bowlers were on top from the beginning, as Arshdeep Singh sent Reeza Hendricks (0) and Rassie van der Dussan (0) back to the pavilion, on back-to-back deliveries in the second over of the game itself.

Tony de Zorzi and Aiden Markram, tried to rebuild the innings, but Arshdeep Singh struck again twice inside the first powerplay to send Tony de Zorzi (28) and Heinrich Klassen (6), to reduce the South African innings to 52 for 4.

Another Indian pacer, Avesh Khan, then joined the party to remove, Aiden Markram (12), Wiaan Mulder (0) and David Miller (2), in a span of 18 balls to reduce Proteas to 58 for 7.

Avesh then removed Keshav Maharaj (4), to sink South Africa further.

Andile Phehlukwayo (33), then tried to resurrect the innings but was removed by Arshdeep Singh, who completed his first five-wicket haul in ODI cricket.

Kuldeep Yadav then became the only spinner to pick the wicket in the match, as he dismissed Nandre Burger (7), to pack up the whole Proteas innings on 116 runs in 27.3 overs.
