India’s ‘Golden boy’ Neeraj Chopra reaches hometown, receives grand welcome

New Delhi: Tokyo Olympics Gold medallist Neeraj Chopra reached his hometown Samalkha in Panipat, Haryana on August 17. This is Neeraj’s first visit to his hometown after he won the coveted medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

Neeraj received a warm welcome at his hometown. a grand feast is being organised by the family for around 30,000 people. The whole village and distant relatives have been invited for the grand celebration.

“It feels good to receive so much love. I hope that this support and love for Javelin continue; will keep working hard. This medal will inspire many more kids who want to pursue the sport,” said Golden boy Neeraj Chorpa.

Neeraj created history when he clinched the first Gold for India in track and field in the Olympics as he threw the javelin to a distance of 87.58m.

Neeraj’s historic golden throw in the Olympics has been listed as one of the 10 magical moments of athletics (track and field) in the Tokyo Olympics by World Athletics.

He has been felicitated by the Indian Government, the Sports Ministry, the Athletic Federation of India as well as the Indian Army post his return.
