IPL 2023: Who are top contenders for Orange cap & Purple cap?

After 45 days of the tournament, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Faf du Plesis continues to occupy the numero uno spot for Orange cap.

New Delhi: The 16th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is nearing towards closure, with the final clash slated for May 28 (Sunday). The clash for entry into play-off stage has intensified and except Delhi Capitals, all teams are in contention for the knockout stage.

Last night, Royal Challengers Bangalore thrashed Rajasthan Royals by a huge margin of 112 runs while CSK lost crucial game to KKR by 6 wickets at the Chidambaram stadium in Chennai. Though, both games saw big scores & quick fall of wickets, the standings/positions for Orange Cap & Purple Cap hasn’t much changed.

Top players in race for Orange cap

After 45 days of the tournament, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Faf du Plesis continues to occupy the numero uno spot for Orange cap. He further emboldened his grip on the Orange cap by scoring half-century against Royals in last night match. With an inning of 55 runs (44 balls), he improved his batting average and amassed a total of 631 runs from just 12 matches. He is currently the highest run-getter in this edition of game and is sitting calmly on the top spot. His closest rival is Royals batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal. Though, he didn’t fire in last night clash against RCB and was dismissed for a duck, he is comfortably positioned at

Number 2 spot. CSK batsman Devon Conway cemented his third ranking in the table by scoring 30 runs in last night match against KKR. Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill are other players in contention for the orange cap.

Purple Cap contenders

There has been much change even in the purple cap contenders as Gujarat Titans spinner Rashid Khan continues to occupy the top spot with Yuzvendra Chahal following him closely. Rashid Khan has 23 wickets from 12 matches while Chahal has scalped 21 wickets in the tournament so far.

Mumbai Indians spinner Piyush Chawla & Titans pacer Mohammed Shami are also in the race with 19 wickets. KKR spinner Varun Chakravarthy is also on same track, with 19 wickets.
