IPL Media Rights Auction 2022: Check out the details here

The base price for the auction is set to Rs. 32, 890 crores, which is more than double the price in 2017.

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is conducting the auctions for the media rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the years 2023-27. The auction begins at 11 a.m. on June 12.  Currently, Star India owns the IPL Media Rights and paid Rs 16,347 crore in 2017 for acquiring the rights. 

The base price for the auction is set to Rs. 32, 890 crores, which is more than double the price in 2017.

Packages of IPL media rights

Media rights are of 4 packages
  • Package A: Indian sub-continent exclusive TV (broadcast) rights (Base price Rs. 49 crores per match)
  • Package B: Covers digital rights for the Indian sub-continent. (Base price Rs. 33 crores per match)
  • Package C: For 18 selected games in each season for digital space (Base price Rs. 11 crores per match)
  • Package D: All games will be for combined TV and digital rights for overseas markets. (Base price Rs. 3 crores per match)

Who is bidding for the rights?

There are 14 bidders out of which 7 are currently involved in the auction of media rights of one of the most popular sports leagues in the world. The bidders include global giants like Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL), Reliance-Viacom 18 and Disney Star Network. Sony Sports Network is also bidding in the name of Culver Max Entertainment Private Limited for PACKAGE A. This year, BCCI is not conducting a closed bidding lie it did in 2017, this year rather, the participants can withdraw their bid after a certain stage.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said he is delighted by the growth of Indian cricket and made a big claim, saying the IPL generates more revenue than the Premier League, one of the biggest football leagues in the globe at the India Leadership Council Event.
