Liverpool vs. Sheffield United: Reds’ top 4 hopes alive with a 2-0 victory

Defending champions are still at 6th in Premier League after their miserable run in February. They are currently 19 points behind the league leaders Manchester City and 2 points away from 4th place West Ham.

New Delhi: Liverpool ended their 4-game long losing run in the Premier League on Sunday. They defeated Sheffield United, who are last in the table right now with a score of 2-0. This was their first win in the league after defeating West Ham in the end of January.

First-half saves from Sheffield goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale kept the defending champions at bay. The 20-year-old academy graduate Curtis Jones made the breakthrough for Liverpool in the 48th minute when he shot in off Trent Alexander-Arnold’s deflected cross. There was a brief check for whether the ball went out of play in the buildup, but no conclusive evidence was found.

Although Firmino shot the ball for the second goal, it got deflected by Kean Bryan of Sheffield and was ruled as an own goal for Bryan. This decision saw Firmino go seventh game in a row without a goal in the league and Champions League.

During the post-match interview, Klopp said, “We should have scored three times before we scored the two goals, so it just shows that how we created was really good. The finishing was good enough for today but we know we can improve that still.”

Liverpool will host Chelsea on Friday who are currently one place above the Reds at 5th position. Chelsea’s last match was a 0-0 draw against Manchester United.
