Neeraj Chopra: India’s ‘golden boy’ who reigned at both, Olympics & World Championship

The 25-year-old have now won everything the sports have to offer.

New Delhi: The moment Golden Boy of India secured the gold medal with his 88.17m throw in his second attempt, he achieved the accolade that most of the athletes only dream of achieving.

Neeraj at the age of just 25 has won everything the sport can offer him. He had already won gold at the Commonwealth Games, Olympics, Asian Games, South Asian Games, Diamonds League, and U20 World Championship even before the start of the tournament. He finally achieved the only laurel that was missing from his list on Monday, August 28.

Neeraj upon being asked before the tournament what is left for him to achieve in the sports as he has won medals in every possible tournament replied, “I haven’t won gold at the World Championship yet.” Interestingly, Neeraj had to settle for silver at the world championship last year.

Neeraj with his historical achievement has made sure that India now holds medals of all colors at the World Athletics Championships. Apart from Neeraj’s silver and gold medals, India also holds a bronze medal at WAC courtesy of Anju Bobby George who won her medal in the high jump at the 2003 edition of the tournament.

Neeraj joins the elite list.

With his World Athletics Championship heroics, Neeraj has now become the only the second Indian person to hold gold at the Olympics and World Championships. Before Neeraj, the only person to achieve the feat was Abhinav Bindra.

Neeraj: A Champion on and off the field.

Neeraj Chopra has constantly proven that he does not only have a golden arm but is also a proud owner of a golden heart. He again proved this in two incidents after his WAC heroics.

First after the medal ceremony, Neeraj Invited his fellow competitor Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem under his flag noticing that the latter did not have his own flag with him.

And in a completely different incident after being asked for an autograph on the Indian flag from one of his fans from Hungry, he refused to sign on the flag saying, “Waha nahi sign kar sakta.” Neeraj instead gave him an autograph on her sleeves as signing on the flag will be a violation of the nation’s flag.

Notably, after being asked by the media what motivation he will have now in the sports as he has won everything it has to offer him. To which Neeraj replied that I am a thrower and we don’t have a finish line, so I will continue to make my nation proud however I can.
