New Delhi: World champion and India’s star athlete Neeraj Chopra scripted history on Day 11 of the Asian Games 2023 in China’s Hangzhou province by winning the second consecutive gold medal in the javelin throw event on Wednesday.

Neeraj Chopra’s gold winning moment, despite an initial setback in Round One, evoked loud cheers from the stadium and also set the nation into euphoric mode.

The video, recording the celebratory moment, captured Neeraj Chopra’s quick act to save the Indian Tricolour from falling on ground. The 3 second video shows Neeraj & Jena posing for the cameras after victory. Jena sported the national flag while Neeraj was without one. A person from audience hurled the flag towards him. It wavered in the air and looked that it will fall on ground. But, Neeraj swung into action and saved it from falling in ground. His love & respect for the Tricolour elicited many reactions from people.

Notably, Olympian Neeraj Chopra along with fellow Indian competitor Kishore Kumar Jena bagged the top honours in the javelin throw event, gold & silver medal respectively.

This heartwarming moment of 25-year-old is not just a one-off incident. Months ago, the star athlete captured the attention of all when he signed an autograph for Hungrarian fan.


In August 2023, he obliged the autograph seeking fan but made sure that he didn’t harm the dignity of Indian flag.

The fan sought his autograph to which he agreed but when he realized that she was seeking it on the Indian flag, he resisted and rather signed on her sleeves.

The incident happened when he became the first Indian to earn gold medal in the World Athletics Championship, held in Hungary.
