New Delhi: BCCI throws one more googly to the ‘head coach’ conundrum. Gautam Gambhir who was clear favourites to take charge of the Indian cricket team will not travel with the team for the upcoming Zimbabwe series. Instead of Gambhir, VVS Laxman and his supporting staff will be travelling with the team.
This comes as a shocker to all the fans and supporters of Indian cricket. People were expecting that the formal declaration of Gambhir as the head coach would come in some time. However, just at that point, BCCI has considered a rival coach WV Raman to provide some ‘competition’ to Gautam’s candidature.
Now, he is completely out of the picture as the young team of India takes the field in Zimbabwe. As of now, the authorities have not clarified the stance of not sending Gambhir as the formal head coach of India. BCCI is currently preoccupied with a ‘target list’ for players who can be suitable for the upcoming tour under the supervision of Laxman at the NCA.

Gautam Gambhir is the clear favourite to win the rat race over the throne of the Indian cricket team. Many people think that there must be some problem due to which BCCI is taking so long to announce it. The results when declared will just be a formality of the conclusion of the entire process.
But the statements from BCCI that “There is a possibility that Laxman along with some of the NCA coaches will travel with the new look squad to Zimbabwe…” has thrown everyone off balance. This ‘little’ delay is making people wild guesses that talks might have broken down between two sides. The question that remains is when will the “GG Era” start for Team India.
