Sindhu had to score four consecutive points to overcome the challenge, but it was not enough. Han Ye strikes against and went on to win the first game 17-21. In the second game, Sindhu started well and gave Han no chance to recover. It was her seven consecutive points in the end that led her to win the second game.

The third game started in a similar fashion as the first one, but Han Ye managed to take a decisive lead as Sindhu seemed to struggle. Then Sindhu had to score seven consecutive points to overcome the match pressure. When the score stood at 19 all, Sindhu scored the two winning points to book her spot in the semi-finals.

She will be facing Saena Kawakami, the Japanese world No. 38 in the semis. Kawakami caused a big upset in the quarter-finals by eliminating the sixth-seeded Pornpawee Chochuwong.

This is the first semi-final entry for PV Sindhu since Thailand Open in May. Apart from her Saina Nehwal and HS Pronnoy have also reached the quarter-finals in the Singapore Open. The stage is set for the world number 7 to score well before she goes for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham which begins on July 28.
