Rahmanullah Gurbaz gets emotional as Afghanistan beats Bangladesh, qualifies for the semis

Afghanistan’s opener batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz was spotted crying with joy as Rashid Khan and Co. defeated Bangladesh in a nail-biting thriller. Afghanistan made history by qualifying for the first time in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals.

New Delhi: Afghanistan’s wicketkeeper-batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz was spotted crying happy tears as Rashid Khan and Co. defeated Bangladesh in a nail-biting thriller. Afghanistan made history by qualifying for the first time in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final.

Rashid Khan led the Afghanistan scripted history by qualifying for the semi-finals. Afghanistan clashed against Bangladesh on Tuesday, 25th June 2024, at the Arnos Vale Stadium, Saint Vincent. Both teams had their share of chances to qualifications. In a nail-biter showdown, Bangladesh fell short by 8 runs and lost the game.

Afghanistan bowlers sealed the game in this historic game of cricket and took their team through the Super 8 into the semi-final. Afghans celebrated a thrilling win as Naveen-Ul-Haq got the last nail in the coffin, Mustafizur Rahman’s wicket, wrapped the game.

Some players on high emotion could not control themselves and were seen shedding tears of joy. Afghans wicket-keeper batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz was one of the players who failed to hold back tears following the victory. Struggling to walk Gurbaz was supported by his teammates. Jonathan Trott, Afghanistan’s head coach overjoyed by the victory lifted the 22-year-old wicket-keeper batsman and joined the team in their victory lap.

The wholesome moment was captured by the cameraman, it instantly went viral on social media.

Earlier, Gurbaz was struggling to score quick runs during the first innings. He scored 43(55) hitting 3 boundaries and one six. The young batsman lost his wicket to Rishad Hossain during the 17th over of the innings.

However, Gurbaz got injured during the first over of the Bangladeshi innings and was forced to leave the ground. Despite the injury, Gurbaz tracked the game from the dugout, celebrating every wicket.

Qualified for the semi-finals, Afghanistan will face South Africa on 27th June, in semi-final 1.
