Ritika Phogat - cousin sister of star India wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat - committed suicide after she reportedly lost the final match of a wrestling tournament.

New Delhi: Ritika Phogat, the 17-year-old maternal sister of Indian wrestlers Geeta and Babita Phogat died on Wednesday. According to reports, it is saidthat she had taken her life after a wrestling match loss.

She has taken the extreme step after  taking part in a competition in Bharatpur’s Lohagarh Stadium. It is said that, she had lost the final match on March 14 by a single point.

After the news of her passing away, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, VK Singh took to Twitter to condole her death. “The world has changed from where it was some decades ago. Athletes are facing pressures which were not there earlier. An essential part of their training should be to deal with these pressures,” he noted.
