Rohit Sharma inches closer to Babar Azam in latest ICC ODI rankings; Shubman Gill remain in 2nd position

In the latest ODI rankings, India’s ODI skipper Rohit Sharma has inched closer to the top overthrowing Virat Kohli who has slipped to the 4th position.

New Delhi: In the latest ODI rankings, India’s ODI skipper Rohit Sharma has inched closer to the top overthrowing Virat Kohli who has slipped to the 4th position. Rohit has been in phenomenal form in the ongoing tour of Sri Lanka. In the first game, Rohit scored 58 (47) as Team India drew the match chasing 231.

While in the second ODI, the Indian skipper scored 64 off 44 balls as India was defeated in the second ODI by 32 runs. Interestingly, the match between India and Sri Lanka has given a major boost to the players in the ICC rankings. Rohit has managed to strike the ball at 134.06 and an average of 61, continuing the form that he had picked up at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

As a result, Rohit Sharma has become the third-highest cricketer in the ODI rankings with 763 rating points to his name. The Indian skipper is just 61 points behind the leader Babar Azam who sits atop with 826 points.

Shubman Gil on the second spot

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill who is currently India’s vice-captain in ODIs and T20Is is steadfast on the second position with 782 points against his name. Gill is just 21 points ahead of Rohit.

On the other hand, allrounder Axar Patel too has seen an improvement in his ranking. Axar scored 77 runs in 2 ODIs against Sri Lanka and has jumped 35 places to be ranked at 178th place.

Simultaneously, Kuldeep Yadav also improved his overall ranking to come to the fourth rank in the ODI rankings for the bowlers. Kuldeep’s 2/33 in the second ODI helped him climb up to the fourth place in the ranking. The first position however, continues to be with Keshav Maharaj from South Africa.
