Shahid Afridi picks Dhoni over Ricky Ponting as 'better captain'

New Delhi: In its World Cup opening match, Team India handed over a crushing defeat to Australia and thrashed it by 6 wickets. The Men in Blue delivered a measured & solid performance in both bowling & batting departments. The pacers pierced through the Austrlaian top bowling order and then Virat Kohli & KL Rahul salvaged the Indian innings after initial setback.

However, former Pakistan cricket Shahdi Afridi didn’t look convinced with India’s clinical performance and rather saw meat consumption as the reason for its enhanced performance.

Acknowledging the improved bowling attack by Team India, Afridi said that it’s the habit of eating meat that has improved Indian bowlers’ performance in the international cricket.

“India has a huge 1.4 billion population, and the quality of cricket has changed [over the years]. Back then we used to say that they are producing great batters while Pakistan is creating good bowlers, but that was not the case as we were generating both bowlers and batters their bowlers have now started eating meat, so they have gained strength”, said Shahid in an Instagram post.

India’s ‘New & Improved’ bowling attack

Indian Pace attack witnessed a significant improvement in the last couple of years with star bowlers like Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammad Siraj coming forward and delivering their best for the team when needed the most.

Speaking of Indian Spinners, the team in blue has also emerged with a skilled and talented spin attack in the last couple of years with young Indian spinners like Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna coming to the light and proving their might on the big stages on numerous occasions.

India begins World Cup campaign with victory

Meanwhile, Rohit and men started their World Cup quest on a high note by defeating Australia with 6 wickets in the 5th game of the tournament.

After winning a crucial toss, Australia invited India to bowl first but their plan soon backfired as Indian spinners wreaked havoc by completely demolishing the Aussie batting lineup and wrapping up their inning on a score of 199 in 49.3 overs.

While chasing a small total of 200, the Indian top order rattled once again as skipper Rohit, Opener Ishan Kishan, and S Iyer walked back to the dugout without scoring a single run after losing their wickets in a row.

However, India’s batting maestros Virat Kohli 85 (116) and KL Rahul 97* (115) saved the day with their impressive knocks that helped India cross the line and register a comfort victory in their first encounter of the tournament.
