Shubman Gill hits 208, becomes youngest player to score double century

New Delhi: Shubman Gill has become the youngest player to score double century in an One Day International (ODI) match.

The cricketer was on fire in the first ODI against New Zealand and displayed some outstanding batting by scoring double century.

Gill scored 208 runs off just 149 deliveries against New Zealand in first ODI match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

With this feat, the 23-year-old cricketer has joined an elite league of Indian cricketers scoring double ton. He has become only the 5th player after Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Rohit Sharma & Ishan Kishan to score double tons for India in ODIs.

Gill slammed the Kiwis and hit one of the fastest double century in an ODI. He has also become the fastest Indian to complete 1,000 runs in ODIs.

This is the third century by the promising Punjab batter, who recently got a chance to play in the Team India squad.

Gill scored a century in the final match of Sri Lanka series and followed it up with double century in first ODI match against Kiwis on Wednesday.

With this double ton in Hyderabad match, Gill has hit his 3rd century in just 19 innings of his international career.

Staring the innings with Rohit Sharma, Gill anchored the innings while captain Rohit Sharma went cheaply, followed by quick dismissal of Virat Kohli & Ishan Kishan.

Owing to heroes innings by Gill, the cheering crowd at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi stadium sang paeans for him and also gave him  standing ovation while on social media, congratulatory tweets flooded the space.
