Sourav Ganguly to return to Delhi Capitals as Director of Cricket: Reports

Sources have revealed that he will be the Director of Cricket with DC and shares a comfort level with the owners of the team.

New Delhi: According to reports, former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly will return as head of all cricket for the IPL franchise Delhi Capitals in the upcoming edition of the league. Sources have revealed that he will be the Director of Cricket with DC and shares a comfort level with the owners of the team.

The ex-cricketer stepped down as the BCCI’s president in October. Not just IPL, but Ganguly will oversee all the cricket verticals of the franchise along with the ILT20 team Dubai Capitals and the SA20 league team Pretoria Capitals.

Anonymous sources told PTI that if Ganguly would have worked in IPL, it would have ‘always’ been with Delhi Capitals. The former Indian captain was the mentor of Delhi Capitals while working with the franchise in the 2019 edition of the IPL. It is speculated that Delhi Capitals’ recent auction picks were done with both head coach Ricky Ponting’s and Ganguly’s advice.

Sourav Ganguly DC

Sourav Ganguly completed his tenure as BCCI’s president in October 2022 and former World Cup-winning Indian player Roger Binny stepped in. Even though the Supreme Court allowed the amendments to BCCI’s rulebook which enabled the tenure extension, Ganguly decided to drop the post.

Meanwhile, the IPL is expected to begin in April and DC captain Rishabh Pant, who met with a near-fatal road accident, is unlikely to play for the franchise. In such a situation, DC would need someone like David Warner to step in.
