“Sports has been politicised…” Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore lashes out at Vinesh Phogat’s decision to join Congress ahead of Haryana Polls

BJP MLA and former Olympic shooter Rajyavardhan Singh has lashed out at former wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia after both joined Congress on September 6.

New Delhi: BJP MLA and former Olympic shooter Rajyavardhan Singh has lashed out at former wrestlers Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia after both joined Congress on September 6.

Vinesh is believed to be contesting the polls from Julana while Bajrang Puia is set to assume the position of the president of the Kisan Congress. The entry of both Olympic stars has not been accepted by rivals from the sporting and political fraternity.

Earlier the former WFI president Brij Bhushan had commented on Phogat and Punia’s joining the Congress with the “Draupadi” remarks which had stirred a huge controversy-

In the gambling that took place in the Mahabharat, Draupadi was put at stake. The Pandavas lost. The country has still not been able to accept their reasons for doing so….

Now, Rajasthan’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Department has hit out against the blatant politicisation of sports.

“Sports has been politicised…”- Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore is disheartened?

In a recent interview, Rathore was quoted by the reporters where he was seen quoting-

Sports has been politicised, it is a sad thing. This is democracy, so everybody has the right to join politics but another field shouldn’t get sullied. I feel that in Olympics, wrestling is such a sport, in which so many athletes take part and we get so many medals. This time more medals could have come if such an atmosphere had not been created earlier…

Bajrang Punia clinched a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics while Vinesh reached very close to winning a gold medal. However, Vinesh was disqualified after a faulty weight fiasco. Now, it seems both wrestlers are getting ready for their new bout with the upcoming polls.

When are the Haryana Polls?

The polling for the 2024 Haryana Polls for the 90-member Legislative Assembly will take place on 5th October 2024. Furthermore, the results will be declared on 8 October 2024.
