New Delhi: The Surya-Hardik seems like a newfound controversy on social media with fans backing their respective favourite players for the role of captaincy. This fan war was triggered after BCCI decided to hand over the captaincy duties to Suryakumar Yadav rather than Hardik Pandya.
But nothing concrete has yet been decided on the same. To show their strength and love, a fervent hashtag under the title “WE WANT CAPTAIN SKY” has started to become viral on social media. While Hardik remains the senior player over here, chants of social media and internal reports show that India could write a new chapter of captaincy with Suryakumar Yadav.
Surya is expected to lead the side from the upcoming Sri Lanka tour. Previously, Surya had led the side in 7 T20Is against Australia (4 matches) and South Africa (3 matches). While in the series against Australia, Surya led the side to a 4-1 win, the South Africa tour ended with a 1-1 draw with one match getting washed away. Moreover, Surya was also the vice-captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders for a few years when Gautam Gambhir was the captain of KKR. This alleged ‘favouritism’ on the part of Gauti is anticipated to be one of the main reasons for Surya to take on captaincy duties.
