BCCI to announce Gautam Gambhir as the head coach of India, Official announcement soon: Report

According to sources Gautam Gambhir is set to replace Rahul Dravid as the new Head Coach of Team India post the ongoing T20 World Cup. BCCI allowed Gambhir to choose his own support staff, official announcement soon. 

New Delhi: According to sources Gautam Gambhir is set to replace Rahul Dravid as the new Head Coach of Team India post the ongoing T20 World Cup. BCCI allowed Gambhir to choose his own support staff, official announcement soon.

The former captain is also known as ‘The Wall” of the Indian batting line-up and current Head Coach of Team India,  Rahul Dravid’s tenure will be over by the end of June 2024. The T20 World Cup is Dravid’s last official assignment as the Head Coach of Team India. His tenure was extended last year after the ODI World Cup 2023.

India at T20 World Cup 2024

T20 World Cup 2024 is Dravid’s last as the head coach of India. Currently, India has qualified for the Super 8. The men in Blue have been unbeaten throughout the group stages. Now, out of 20 teams, 8 have qualified and been segregated into two groups 1 and 2. India has featured in group 1, with Australia, and Afghanistan while Bangladesh and  Netherlands fighting for the one spot left.

Gambhir to choose his Support Staff

Reportedly the KKR mentor, Gautam Gambhir is all set to replace Rahul Dravid and be the next Head Coach of Indian Cricket team. Additionally, the person who signs the contract with BCCI will get to choose his own support staff. The contract stands valid till the end of The World Cup 2027.

According to media reports, the deal has been sealed between BCCI and Gambhir. Official announcement is going to be made soon.

Gambhir’s experience as Coach

Undoubtedly the former Indian cricketer has achieved remarkable feats as a player. Without his contributions India could not have won the T20 World Cup 2007 and The Cricket World Cup 2011. Gambhir does not posses much experience in the coaching position. However, he has been the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders.

During his tenure in LSG, the franchise qualified for two consecutive seasons (2022 and 2023). For 2024, Gambhir joined KKR as a mentor and eventually the team won IPL 2024. His contributions and efforts made KKR champions after a gap of 10 years.
