“This is Pakistan cricket, not street cricket…” Former Pakistani star Basit Ali slams the entire team for Pindi Loss

After former cricketer Ramiz Raja’s critical take on the Pakistani team, former Pakistani cricket coach Basit Ali has now come down strongly on the national team.

New Delhi: The Pakistani Cricket team has become the punching bag of the sporting world after receiving left and right criticism. After former cricketer Ramiz Raja’s critical take on the Pakistani team, Basit Ali has now come down strongly on the national team.

Ali had especially criticised Abdulla Shafique whose lacklustre performance in both the innings. In the first innings, Shafique was out for 2(14) runs while in the second innings, Shafique was out for 37(86). Basit was especially critical for Shafique’s second innings where the Pakistani batsman threw away his wicket after settling down at the crease.

If I was in the dressing room, I would have told Abdullah Shafique to pack his bags and leave. His shot was the reason Pakistan lost the match. After hitting 37, you are giving away your wicket with such a shot. Shan Masood should punish Shafique. This is Pakistan’s team, not your local team. They played the wrong combination.

Basit however did not stop over there and criticised Masood’s decision as well. After scoring 448/6 in the first innings, Masood became overconfident and was unable to gauge the capability of the opposition.

Naseem Shah also faces criticism

Abdulla Shafique and Shan Masood were not the only ones who faced criticism from Basit. Naseem Shah who was so vocal about PCB for not delivering pace-friendly pitches also threw away his wicket cheaply. Basit added

Look at the way Naseem Shah gave away his wicket. This is Pakistan cricket, not street cricket, this happens in England’s league cricket.

Apart from the failure of the players, Basit also blamed Jason Gillespie, the head coach of the Pakistani Cricket team who had failed to read the nature of the pitch. As a result, Pakistan went ahead with an out-and-out pace attack leaving behind spinners. This caused a serious problem in the bowling as the Bangladeshi batsmen piled up on the one way traffic of the Pakistani attack.
