Tokyo Olympics: PV Sindhu storms into semi-final, raises India’s hopes of medal… WATCH bout highlights

Earlier, Sindhu defeated Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt 21-15 21-13 while Yamaguchi defeated Korea’s Kim Gaeun 21-17 21-18.

New Delhi: At the Tokyo Olympics, Indian Shuttler PV Sindhu stormed into semi-final of women’s singles event after beating Japan’s Number 4 seed Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals.

With this victory, Sindhu has assured the nation of a medal. This is turning out to be a good day for India, as boxer Lovlina Borgohain ensured a medal for the nation, earlier in a day.

In the clash that lasted for 56 minutes, Sindhu defeated Akane Yamaguchi 21-13, 22-20 in two rounds.

Sindhu performed exceptionally well in the quarter-final clash and remained on top of the game throughout.

In the 1st round, it was a close contest but eventually turned out in Sindhu favour. Indian shuttler brought out the best in her to win it 21-13. Japanese gave a tough fight to Sindhu but couldn’t stand when Sindhu mounter her game.

In the 2nd round also, Yamaguchi made Sindhu toil hard and made the Indian shuttler fight for every point. At the end, 6th seed Sindhu won the match in straight games.

Shuttle Sindhu has been leading India’s campaign and is bound to win a medal by storming into semi-final.

A day earlier, Sindhu defeated Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt at the Musashino Forest Plaza Court 3. Sindhu outclassed Blichfeldt 21-15, 21-13 in just 41 minutes of the game and cruised into the quarter-finals.

The wrestler from Assam became the 2nd Indian woman boxer to clinch medal at Tokyo Olympics.
