New Delhi: Ace weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu stole the show on Day One (July 24) of the ongoing Tokyo Olympics as she opened India’s medals tally on Saturday after bagging a silver in the Women’s 49kg category.
Chanu lifted a total of 202 kg (87kg in snatch and 115kg in clean and jerk) during her four successful attempts across the competition.
Despite winning the Silver medal for the country and bringing joy and glory to the nation, one of the reporters of the reputed TV Channel (Indiatoday) in an exclusive talk to Chanu asked her to sing on national television soon after her performance.
However, Chanu refused to sing and said she cannot sing she only listens.
As India Today’s Rahul Rawat speaks Exclusively to the star of the hour Mirabai Chanu, he also said that
Saikhom Mirabai Chanu was singing and dancing after her win at Tokyo 2020.
“My dream of winning the medal has been achieved. I learned after my defeat in the Rio Olympics, changed my technique, and worked hard,” said Chanu.
“I had worked for Rio also but I feel that wasn’t my day. That day I decided that I have to fulfill my dream in the Tokyo Olympics,” she said.
Chanu said that whatever she has sacrificed has come back to her and it’s been fruitful.
She also talked about her earing (in the shape of five Olympic rings).
