Virendra Sehwag takes a dig at the Pakistani team after it’s group stage exit

Pakistan has been thrown out of the group stages of the 2024 T20 World Cup after sufferring back-to-back defeats against the USA and India.

New Delhi: International cricket is surrounded by criticism and analysis of the recent performance of the Pakistan national team. A team which was poised to clear the group stages has fallen short on the back of some agonising defeats.

In one of the poorest ICC campaigns for Pakistan, the men in green have bottled an easy game against India and looked in complete disarray as they were routed by the American team. Against Ireland too, Pakistan would have botched up the game hadn’t their captain Babar Azam rescued them from misery.

“How can you blame the rain?..”- Sehwag criticises ‘lacklustre’ performance of Pakistan

India qualified from the group comfortably, while the Americans booked the second spot. Luck has also not been on the side of Babar and Co. A rain-hit match between the USA and Ireland meant that the Pakistani team was eliminated even before bowling a single ball against Ireland!

However, former Indian batsman and a member of the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup, Virender Sehwag has criticised the Pak authorities who have blamed the rain for the team’s downfall. Sehwag remarked, “How can you blame rain?…” According to Sehwag, the men in green do not deserve to play the Super 8s let alone qualify for the same!

Furthermore, Sehwag adds that after axing an easy chase against India and losing to World Cup debutants- the USA, how can Pakistan dream about playing in the Super 8s? Sehwag further added that ICC should think about putting India and Pakistan in different groups after the former has defeated the latter time and time again.
