WAC 2023: WATCH the Golden moment that made Neeraj Chopra, a world champion

The 25-year-old star upgraded the color of his medal with an 88.17m throw on Monday.

New Delhi: On Monday, August 28, 2023, Neeraj Chopra became the first-ever Indian to win a gold medal at the World Athletics Championship and also the only Indian to have multiple medals at the event.

Neeraj earlier won a silver medal at the 2022 World Athletics Championship held in Eugene, Oregon.

Earlier, Neeraj secured a direct entry in the final round with his 88.77m throw in the qualification round.

The reigning Olympic and now the World Champion’s journey in the final was not a cake in the park as his first throw was declared foul by the judges.

However, on his very second throw, Neeraj managed to send his javelin flying through the air to a massive 88.17m away which was more than enough to win him his first-ever gold at the world championships.

The video clip of Neeraj’s winning moment from the match which was streamed live for free on Jio Cinema is now making its rounds on the internet and is being loved by the fans. Check out the video below;

Notably, Neeraj’s 88.17m throw for the gold was followed by, Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem’s 87.82m throw for the silver and Czech Republic’s Jakub Vaadlejch’s 86.67m throw for the bronze.

After a successful outing at the WAC Neeraj will now be looking to defend his Asian Games gold next month which he won in the 2018 edition of the tournament which was held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
