Watch: Vinesh Phogat celebrates Raksha Bandhan with brother, video goes viral

In a recent video which became viral on social media, wrestler Vinesh Phogat was found celebrating Raksha Bandhan with her brother after her return from Paris.

New Delhi: Vinesh Phogat, the champion of Indian wrestling, received a hearty round of cheers when she came back from the Paris Olympics 2024. Although she could not see the light of the podium, her journey to reach the finals itself is an inspiration for millions of women in the country.

Recently, the grappler from Haryana was found celebrating Raksha Bandhan with his brother after she returned from Paris. After she came back from Paris, she was received with a warm welcome and rounds of applause for her phenomenal run in Paris.

The Khap panchayats which have once been vocal about the stance of Vinesh over the resignation of the WFI President Brij Bhushan now see her as the champion of wrestling. Interestingly, Vinesh was presented with a gold medal upon her return to India by her village headman Ballali.

Did Vinesh Phogat’s brother give her the entire earnings of his life?

A recent video went viral on social media which shows the Indian wrestler celebrating the festival of Raksha Bandhan with her brother. Amidst the festivities, Phogat suddenly remarked jokingly “…He has earned this much money only in his whole life (jokingly), which he has given to me…” Although it was a comical gesture, Phogat’s brother retorted back with a smile.

Vinesh’s story

Vinesh Phogat, India’s freestyle wrestler in the 50kg weight category was able to reach the finals of the freestyle wrestling in the 50kg weight category. However, the Indian wrestler was inches close to the gold medal bout. Subsequently, she was disqualified from the gold medal bout when she was found 100g over the permissible limit which is not allowed.

In the aftermath of this mayhem, Phogat lodged a complaint with the Court of Arbitration for Sport for this unfair ruling. However, the Indian grappler could not get justice from the apex body as the ruling of disqualification stood true.
