New Delhi: As the cauldron of auctions and IPL rumours intensify, RCB has dropped yet another bombshell which is going to disappoint the fans. Earlier, rumours were flown around of Virat Kohli returning as the captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru also started to float. The chitchat intensified as the RCB left out skipper Faf du Plessis from the retention list.

It gave the fans a sense of belief and immense self-belief that Kohli would be reinstated as the team’s captain. However, RCB’s Director of Cricket Mo Bobat poured cold water on Kohli’s captaincy rumours, saying the franchise hasn’t made any decision on the matter yet.

RCB’s list of retained players

The Royal Challengers Bangalore have decided to retain the following players for IPL 2025:

Virat Kohli retained for 21 crore
Rajat Patidar retained for 11 crore
Yash Dayal retained for 5 crore

What did Bobat say?

In a recent interview on Jio Cinema after the IPL 2025, Bobat remarked:

I am sorry to disappoint everybody listening. We have not made any decision related to captaincy or on that (Kohli returning as skipper) as yet. We are open to options. The only obvious decision we made was not to retain Faf. He did a great job last year and the year before that. So from our perspective, we will keep a very open mind when we head to the auction…

It has been reported that Kohli himself is quite keen on taking up the team’s captaincy once again, though no official confirmation has been made on the topic yet. However, with no green signal from the management, the dreams of King Kohli is shattered as of now!

Kohli’s national team commitments comes under the scanner

Meanwhile, after the devastating loss against New Zealand, Virat Kohli’s commitments to the national side has come under brutal scanner. Karsan Ghavri, a veteran of 39 Tests and 19 ODIs, has opined that Virat Kohli should retire if they don’t perform in the Border Gavaskar Trophy that starts on November 22.

On the other hand, Kohli’s criticism has now extended to Rohit Sharma as well who was shambolic against the kiwis.
