The selection was made by the Yo-Yo Test and it has again created a buzz as to what is exactly this fitness test.

What is a Yo-Yo Test?

The Yo-Yo test is a maximal aerobic endurance fitness test, which involves running at increasing speeds until exhaustion. Danish football physiologist Jens Bangsbo and his colleagues developed the test in the 1990s and is now a common physical fitness test for football players. Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 1 is the most common version of the test used for athletes.

How is a Yo-Yo Test conducted?

The level 1 test involves running between two markers kept 20 meters apart and following audio cues dictating the required running speed. After every 40-meter run, the participant has an active break of 10 seconds. The required running speed increases at regular intervals and the test ends when the participant is no longer able to run at the required speed.

What is DEXA Scan?

DEXA is a medical exam for bone density that checks the mineral content of the bones in certain areas.

BCCI, reportedly, shortlisted 20 players for the ICC World Cup 2023 to be held in India. The meeting was attended by newly appointed BCCI President Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah, captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, chief of NCA VVS Laxman, and Chairman of Senior Men Selection Committee Chetan Sharma. It was also decided that the Yo-Yo Test and DEXA will now be part of the selection criteria for the central pool of players.
