What is the update of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Stand-off between BCCI and PCB?

Pakistan and India are embroiled in a tense and never-ending conflict which has put the cricket boards of both nations in a tough spot.

New Delhi: Pakistan and India are embroiled in a tense and never-ending conflict which has put the cricket boards of both nations in a tough spot. The political standoff between both nations is now affecting the ICC Champions Trophy also.

However, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has insisted that the board remains ‘clear’ in its view on hosting the Champions Trophy and added that

it’s not possible that Pakistan play in India, and they don’t come here…

Furthermore, the PCB chairman added that:

I promise we’ll do what is best for Pakistan cricket. I’m constantly in touch with the ICC chairman and my team is talking to them constantly. We’re still clear in our stance that it’s not acceptable that we play cricket in India, and they don’t play cricket here. Whatever will happen, will happen on the basis of equality. We’ve told the ICC very clearly, and what happens next we’ll let you know….

As the India vs Pakistan wages on, a ceasefire is nowhere to be found by the ICC. Naturally, hard steps and decisions might be taken by the board if there are no resolutions found in this twisted controversy. One plausible solution might be to shift the game to a neutral venue like South Africa.

What is the India vs Pakistan controversy?

The India vs Pakistan rivalry has become nasty in a heated exchange of words around the issue of the ICC Champions Trophy. The problem started when India decided that it wouldn’t be travelling to Pakistan for the ICC tournament, which is slated to be played in Pakistan in 2025.

According to a report by a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesperson, the board has confirmed to the leading media outlets of India that ICC has conveyed to them regarding India not travelling to Pakistan for the tournament, which is slated to be played from February 19-March 9 next year.

The PCB has now requested clarification from the ICC after India’s decision not to travel across the border for the Champions Trophy 2025. Interestingly, India has not toured Pakistan since 2008 due to the strained political reasons between the two nations. The PCB has ruled out a hybrid arrangement as suggested by ICC for the 19th of February to the 9th of March.
