Women’s Cricket World Cup: Many stars in the tournament, but Fatima is the ultimate flame

After the win over Pakistan, the pictures wherein the Indian players posed with Fatima became viral on social media

New Delhi: If you’re a cricket enthusiast, and have been watching the ongoing Women’s One Day Cricket World Cup in New Zealand, you’re sure to be aware of all the stars from the tournament, including a seven-month-old baby girl.

While West Indies all-rounder Diandra Dottin is making headlines for her excellent fielding and South Africa’s Shabnam Ismail for her fast deliveries,  Australia’s captain Megan Lanning has earned praises throughout the tournament for her brilliant batting, remained the star player of this World Cup.

But along with them, Fatima, the nearly seven-month-old daughter of Pakistani cricket team captain Bismah Maroof, is also in the news.

After the win over Pakistan, the pictures wherein the Indian players posed with Fatima became viral on social media. In the midst of the ongoing political tension between the two countries, such pictures seemed like a relief to the people.

Social media users are also praising Bismah for being a mother as well as taking over the leadership of her team, that too when she gave birth to Fatima just last August.

When she was pregnant with a baby girl at the end of 2020, Bismah thought that her international career was over. But with the maternity policy of the Pakistan Cricket Board and the encouragement of coach David Hemp, she managed to make a comeback in the team.

In a conversation with BBC about this, Bismah Maroof said, “It was a very beautiful moment in my life, but given the uncertainties related to the profession, it was quite intimidating.”

“I didn’t know what would happen next. At that time it felt like my career was over”, she added.
