After 47 thrilling clashes at venues, the men in blue and the baggy green, undoubtedly the two most successful sides of cricket history, have made it to Ahmadabad’s Narendra Modi stadium to have one last dance for the coveted ICC ODI World Cup Trophy. They will face each other in the epic clash of titans which will last just a few minutes from now in front of more than 1 lakh fans and several prominent political figures, movie actors, and ex-cricketers.

So far in CWC 2023’s month-and-a-half-long journey full of emotions, heartbreaks, happiness, and controversies, we have seen hundreds of previous records getting shattered one after another. While the batters have taken full advantage of the subcontinent’s batting-friendly pitches and smashed hundreds and fifties with good strike rates, bowlers too, specifically Indians, have impressed with their performance by casting wickets on crucial moments.

India’s pacer Mohammed Shami, Australian Spinner Adam Zampa, and Sri Lanka’s medium pacer Dilshan Madhushanka have been the top three standout performers of the tournament. While pace’s powerhouse Mohammed Shami has intimidated his opponents with freaking spells, Adam Zampa and Dilshan have showcased exceptional skills with the ball and delivered consistently for their team.

Now, with the tournament’s one last battle between India and Australia just a few minutes away, it’s a good time for us to have a look at 5 world records that might get broken in Narendra Modi Stadium today.

1. Rohit Sharma could become the first man to reach 1600 runs in World Cups

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been on a rampage mode ever since the second match of India’s World Cup campaign. So far in the tournament, Rohit has scored 550 runs with a breathtaking strike rate of 124.15. This has pushed his World Cup runs tally to a monument figure of 1528 runs and if the cricketer manages to score 72 runs in the final battle against Australia, he will become the first person to touch the glorious mark of 1600 runs in just 28 innings of the ICC World Cup.

He will leave behind the great Sachin Tendulkar who took 29 innings for achieving the same feat.

2. Virat Kohli to break Sachin Tendulkar’s another record

Virat Kohli

We all witnessed how King Kholi created history by breaking Master Blaster’s Golden record of scoring 49 centuries in ODI cricket in the first semi-final clash Between India and New Zealand. In the match, the batting maestro once again proved why he is considered a cricketer of a different caliber and smashed his remarkable 50th ODI century against the fierce Kiwi bowling unit.

Today, pitted against Aussies in the finals, Virat has another golden opportunity to get past Sachin Tendulkar’s record of smashing most runs against the mighty Aussies in the ODI World Cups(194) by scoring just 3 runs in the finals. This will take Kohli’s overall World Cup runs against Australia to 195 and he will dethrone Sachin to become the first Indian player to make 195 runs vs Australia in World Cups.

3. David Warner can be the fastest Aussie to reach 7000 runs in ODI Cricket

David Warner

ICC World Cup’s Pushpa David Warner is one of the most veteran batsmen of the ODI World Cups. So far, the Aussie opener has made as many as 538 runs in 10 innings with a striking average of 52.80 which has taken his overall ODI run total to 6925 in 158 innings.

Today, if Warner manages to give his team a solid start and stores at least 75 runs, he will become the fastest Australian batsman, and second-fastest cricketer to get to the mark of 7000 runs in One Day cricket. He will only stay behind South Africa’s legendary former opening batsman Hashim Alma who made more than 7000 runs in just 150 innings.

4. Shami and Zampa eyes on breaking Starc’s world record

Zampa

The final clash between India and Australia for the coveted trophy will also see a personal battle for the golden ball between Australian spinner Adam Zampa and Indian Pacer Mohammed Shami. Both are currently the top two wicket-takers of the tournament and will be fighting against each other to stay in the first spot by the end of the final game of CWC 2023.

While Shami is currently sitting on top with 23 wickets in just 6 matches, Zampa is closely following him with 22 wickets in 10 games. Besides competing against each other, Zampa and Shami will also eye at breaking Mitchell Star’s world record of taking the most wickets in a single edition of the ODI World Cup I.e 27 wickets in 2019. However, Shami and Zampa will have to take 5 and 6 wickets respectively which is undoubtedly a very challenging task.

5. Mohammad Shami can become the fastest bowler to take 200 Wickets in ODIs

Md Shami

While breaking Starc’s record of 27 wickets In a single edition of the World Cup is already a very hard but not impossible thing for Indian pacer Mohhamad Shami, He can also eye for becoming the first bowler in the history of world cricket to castle 200 wickets in just 100 innings. To do the same, Shami would need to repeat what he did to the Kiwis in the semi-finals and take at least 6 wickets against Australia in the CWC finals.
