World Cup 2023: If rains play spoilsport in semis or final, what will happen? Details here

If the semi-final match gets interrupted by rain, a reserve day will be activated. If it rains again on the reserve day, the two teams will be given equal number of points and the team with higher points will advance into the next stage i.e. World Cup final.

New Delhi: The four teams are set to lock horns in the semi-finals slated for November 15 and November 17, hoping for advancement to next stage. Teams are fixed and so are the dates for semi-final contest. However, if the raingods show their fury and disrupt the match, how the tournament would proceed towards closure, remains the million dollar question for now.

India, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand are the four teams that made their way into semi-finals. Team India is the table-topper while Australia & South Africa occupied the second & third spot. New Zealand while grappling though the ranks, made a last-minute entry into Top 4.

What if rain disrupts match?

The first semi-final clash between India and New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium promises to be a riveting encounter and the cricket fans are already brimming with excitement.

Same would be apply to the second semi-final between Australia and South Africa, slated for November 17. The ICC has scheduled a reserve day for both semifinals as well as finals.

The question on everybody’s mind is what would happen if it rains during the final match. The ICC arrangements are already in place for all such scenarios.

If it rains again on the reserve day of final, there won’t be any further contest. The two contesting teams will be declared joint winners of the Cricket World Cup.
