WPL 2024: 5 young cricketers set to start bidding war between franchises in upcoming mini-auction

A total of 165 players will try their luck under the hammer of the auction

New Delhi: All five franchises of the WPL  (Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriors, Royal Challenger Banglore, and Gujrat Giants) have revealed the list of their released players, and all eyes are now on the upcoming mini-auctions which are set to be held on December 9, 2023.

In the bidding, a total of 165 players will try their luck under the hammer of the auction. Out of these 165 players, 105 are Indians and the rest are from other cricketing nations, including the associate ones.

Now, with less than 48 hours remaining at the beginning of the upcoming auction, fans are buzzing about several young & talented cricketers who have the potential to ignite a major bidding war amongst the franchises who might run after them to strengthen their team in the coming future.

With all that being said, here’s our list of the top 5 young promising players who are very likely to start a bidding war on the upcoming mini auction’s table.

1. Phoebe Litchfield (Australia)

The 20-year-old Aussie woman has everything that it takes to be an explosive T20 batter and her recently scored fastest 50 in women’s T20 is a living proof of the same. During the historical innings, Phoebe slammed a lightning half-century in just 18 balls and equaled the world record of Sophie Devine.

In the mini auctions, the veteran Australian batter will certainly be a good pic for any franchise that may go behind her.

2. Murfa Akter (Bangladesh)

Mufa is one of the most promising Bangladeshi female fast bowlers. Ever since her debut in 2023, Mufa has played 13 T20 matches in which she took 12 wickets, including the wicket of Indian caption Smriti Madhanna.

3. Orla Prendergast (Irland)

Despite being just 21 years old, Ireland has been a part of 42 T20 internationals and the same speaks for her dedication to the game

In the recently held women’s T20 World Cup, Orla became the only Irish woman to smash a half-century. Besides this, she is also the only Irish female player to bat with a strike rate of 123 and has scored the second most fifties for her side in the shortest format of the game.

With so many records on her name at such a young age, any WPL franchise won’t think twice before going after her in the coming Mini-auction.

4. Mannat Kashyap (India)

The only Indian on the list, Mannat went unsold in the prevent edition of WPL despite being a part of India’s World Cup winning team (Under 19 T20 World Cup)

However, with a base price of 10 Lakhs, the pacer will eye for a turn of fate in 2023’s mini auction with the hope of being selected by the bidders this time.

5 Danielle Gibson (England)

Young English cricketer Danielle Gibson has so far played 6 T20s since her debut in international cricket. In the latest season of Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Gibson showcased her exceptional all-round performance by scalping 6 wickets while scoring 105 runs in the 9 matches.

As her exceptional 2023 Big Bash season will be in the mind of every bidder, Gibson can expect a war between several franchises who would love to have her added to their respective sides.
