Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and her son and party leader Rahul Gandhi arrive in Panaji.

In a bid to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic from worsening owing to poor air quality, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) imposed a total ban on the sale and use of firecrackers in the National Capital Region from midnight of November 9 to midnight of November 30.

With winters yet to arrive, the city’s air quality has been very poor and is bound to aggravate in next few days, much like previous years. Festive season in the weekend has already raised alarm bells for the authorities.

The NGT said that restrictions are optional for the authorities at other places, but added that if there are more stringent measures under orders of the authorities, the same will prevail.

Air Quality between 0-50 is marked good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 is moderate, 201-300 is very poor and 401-500 is considered severe or hazardous. If experts are to be believed, people with breathing problems should prefer to work from home to avoid further deterioration of lungs.
