The Congressman while speaking in the US House of Representatives recalled the overwhelming majority with which the Indian Parliament approved the abrogation of Article 370 and expressed hope that this will bring peace in Kashmir.

The senior Congress leader also commented on the recent statement by China's Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang on the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

The US Congressman underlined that the special provision created a polarising environment that was exploited politically.

"We do not expect other countries, including China, to comment on the matters which are internal to India, just as India refrains from commenting on internal issues of other countries," Raveesh Kumar said.

In August this year, the BJP-led Central government revoked Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir and also bifurcated the state into two Union Territories- Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
