England vs New Zealand

In the final against New Zealand, Stokes had gone on to play a knock of 84 runs, but the match had gone to a super over as normal 50-over action ended in a tie.

We actually had quite a good party. I mean, obviously it was quite a sombre mood for a while but then we realised we were part of one of the greatest games in cricket history, so we got over it fairly quickly. We had a good time together

New Zealand became the runners-ups for a second successive time. The Kiwis under the leadership of Brendon McCullum lost the final of the 2015 edition to Australia by seven wickets. Boult said that the two finals were completely different and added that they were outplayed during the 2015 World Cup.

Jimmy Neesham came in to bat at number six and built a partnership of 32 runs with Latham. Neesham was caught by Joe Root on mid-on in the 39th over. Plunkett took his third wicket of the match as he dismissed Neesham.

England have made it to their fourth World Cup final whereas New Zealand have reached the final for the second time. The three lions last made it to the final in 1992 whereas the Kiwis reached the final in the 2015 World Cup as well.

Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan tried to carry the momentum set by the openers but the Kiwis did not allow the English batsmen to open their arms. Boult returned and sent Buttler back to the pavilion for 11, bringing Ben Stokes to the crease. However, Mitchell Santner did not allow Stokes to settle in and dismissed him for 11, leaving England at 248/5.
