After the hangings, the convicts' bodies were sent for post-morterm examinations following which the remains will be handed over to the respective families.

After the hanging at 5:30 am today, the bodies were taken from Tihar Jail to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital for post mortem at around 8:20 am.

The four convicts, along with two others including Ram Singh and a juvenile, had raped and brutally tortured a 23-year-old paramedic student on a moving bus in south Delhi on the night of December 16, 2012.

Ram Singh, one of the six accused in the case, allegedly committed suicide in Delhi's Tihar Jail. A juvenile convict was released from a reformation home after serving a three-year term.

Meanwhile, several petitions filed by the convicts are pending before Delhi court, Delhi High Court and Supreme Court.

The Tihar Jail authorities had filed a petition on Wednesday for issuing a fresh death warrant to the four convicts - Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur, Mukesh Singh and Pawan.

She said that she had heard about the postponement of hearing in the court but for the first time she has seen the postponement of the date of execution.

During the hearing, convicts' lawyer AP Singh told the court that Vinay is on a hunger strike and his mental status is also not well. Singh also sought the court's direction to jail authorities for his health check-up and proper medical report.

Yesterday, a Patiala House court had issued a notice to Tihar jail authorities seeking its response on the petition filed by the convicts in Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case seeking a stay on the execution.
