Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde was on Monday sworn-in as the 47th Chief Justice of India (CJI) by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.

Justice Bobde was elevated to the bench of the Bombay High Court on March 29, 2000, as an Additional Judge. He was sworn in as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court on October 16, 2012.

Justice Ranjan Gogoi was appointed as the Chief Justice of India on October 3 in 2018. Two days before Chief Justice Gogoi is set to retire, he sat with Chief Justice designate S A Bobde in court number one and issued notices.
