New Delhi: Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday announced ‘JioPhone Next’, a smartphone that is expected to further penetrate its market because of its affordability.
Being jointly developed by Jio and tech titan Google, the smartphone is likely to be world’s most affordable smartphone globally.
“JioPhone Next will be available from September 10, and will be the most affordable smartphone globally,” Ambani said addressing RIL’s annual general meeting.
Sept 10 launch for India, then rest of the world
The “extremely affordable” smartphone will have cutting-edge features, including voice assistant and language translation, among others, he said.
He further said Reliance Jio will use Google Cloud for 5G.
The phone will be first launched in India and then taken to the rest of the world.
The first look of the phone also came out at the Reliance AGM. As per image shared by Reliance Jio, the device will feature a full touch display and is expected to have support voice assistant and even ‘smart camera’.
Last year, Google had announced an investment of Rs 33,737 crore for a 7.7 per cent stake in Reliance Industries’ technology venture Jio Platforms. The tech giant had also teamed up on technology initiatives, including development of affordable smartphones for the price-sensitive, tech-savvy Indian market.
