New Delhi: The newest feature in development by WhatsApp aims to enhance the platform by giving users a greater say over their profiles.
Soon, a new privacy option – “Alternate Profile” will be available to users of WhatsApp, the popular messaging app owned by Meta. This functionality is still in the works and is not yet accessible to beta users. However, the WhatsApp Alternate Profile function will soon be accessible to everyone, according to reports.
What Is It?
Currently, WhatsApp allows you to restrict access to your “last seen” status and profile image for certain contacts. But this is expanded upon with the new “Alternate Profiles” function. To keep particular contacts from seeing your personal information, you may create a separate account with a different profile image and name.
The new alternative profile feature, which lets users choose a substitute picture and name that will be accessible to those contacts who cannot view their main profile information, will reportedly be available inside the privacy screen regarding our profile photo, as reported by Wabetainfo.

Alternate Profile was introduced to hide users’ actual identity to improve privacy and usability. This new function will be convenient for those who do not want to display their profiles with everyone.
How Does It Work?
Everyone may see your main profile, which is your usual profile. However, your additional profile is restricted to the friends and family you choose. One profile may be shared with everyone in your social circle, while another can be kept private for use with certain individuals or circumstances.
If you need to use WhatsApp in a business setting, or if you use your work phone for personal and professional purposes, you may establish a second profile with a different name and photo. In this approach, you may keep your work and personal WhatsApp conversations distinct.

The WhatsApp for Android beta just included the other profile functionality. The privacy settings on your profile photo include it. If you create an additional profile with a different picture and name, WhatsApp will display it to your selected contacts instead of your regular profile.
This function strikes a wonderful compromise between your need for privacy and the use of WhatsApp. It’s helpful for folks who wish to keep several online identities for varied sets of acquaintances.
How To Use It?
The WhatsApp Alternate Profile function is available after the app has been activated. Then, under “Privacy,” choose “Profile Photo” from the settings menu. Choose the option “My Contacts” to limit access to your main profile picture to your friends and family. Now you will see an ‘Alternate Profile’. Make a copy of your main profile and keep it up to date.

However, please be aware that this functionality is currently being worked on and is not yet ready for beta testing. With this update, you no longer need a second phone or resort to app cloning to utilise multiple WhatsApp accounts.
