“Only objects, no shadows”: Bengaluru residents share surreal PICs of ‘zero shadow day’

As the Zero Shadow Day started and the Sun came overhead, all the vertical objects in city gave up their shadows for a brief period of time.

New Delhi: Residents of Bengaluru became witness to a rare astronomical phenomenon on Tuesday, as the IT city was one of the cities to observe ‘Zero Shadow Day’.

The city witnessed the rare celestial event at around 12.17 PM today as all the objects had their shadows vanish for a brief span of time.

Those witnessing the moment took to social media to share their experience about rare incident. Amused & surprised with cosmic developments, they shared surreal images of objects not casting their shadow.

As the Zero Shadow Day started and the Sun came overhead, all the vertical objects in city gave up their shadows for a brief period of time.

The moment was strange, surreal & surprising for hundreds of Bengaluru residents who took time out to watch it. They also made it a point to capture the moment on their cameras.

What is Zero Shadow Day?

Zero Shadow Day was a rare celestial phenomenon that the I-T city witnessed today, starting at around 12.17 pm. The rare celestial event takes place two times every year, between locations +23.5 and -23.5 degrees latitude.

The science behind Zero Shadow event is that Sun remains at its highest point in the sky during this time and when it remains there, none of the objects on the earth cast any shadow.

Though, this lasts for just for a few seconds but its impact is felt for upto more than 2 minutes.
