Soon, users may share HD videos on mobile; WhatsApp testing new feature

According to the screenshot, when selecting a video from the Photos app on the phone, users will now see an additional option labeled ‘HD.’

New Delhi: In an exciting development, WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that will allow users to send high-quality videos for profile icons within group chats. This information comes from WABetaInfo, a reliable source for news and updates related to the popular messaging service owned by Meta. To provide a glimpse into how this feature will work, the website shared a screenshot detailing its functionality.

According to the screenshot, when selecting a video from the Photos app on the phone, users will now see an additional option labeled ‘HD.’ However, WABetaInfo clarified that this feature will only be available to users who have installed the latest update of WhatsApp on their iOS devices. By default, the selected videos will be sent in ‘Standard quality,’ and to send them in high-quality, users will need to choose the ‘HD quality’ option.

When a video is sent using this feature, it will be labeled as a ‘high-quality video’ in the conversation. Furthermore, a new tag will be added to the message bubble, informing the recipient that they have received an improved-quality file. It is important to note that the original format of the video cannot be shared using this feature. However, WABetaInfo mentioned that this ability does not apply to videos sent via status updates.

The ability to share high-quality HD videos is currently in the beta-testing phase. WABetaInfo stated that the feature will be gradually rolled out to more users in the coming days, indicating that a wider release is on the horizon.

WhatsApp’s initiative to enhance video-sharing capabilities reflects the platform’s commitment to improving user experience and providing new and exciting features. As the demand for high-quality multimedia content continues to grow, this development is expected to be well-received by WhatsApp users around the world.
