WhatsApp likely to add another verification code to prevent fraud

Meta-owned WhatsApp is working on a new feature.

New Delhi: Meta-owned WhatsApp is working on a new feature that adds an extra layer of security before logging into a WhatsApp account, for Android and IOS.

Regardless of how secure a system is a mistake by the end users can bring down the entire security infrastructure.

According to a report of WABetaInfo, the feature is under development and so it is not available to the public as of now.

When this feature will be introduced the first attempt to log into a WhatsApp account will be successful, after the other first attempt six-digit code will be needed to complete the process.

And after completing this process also another message will be sent to the owner to verify if it’s being used by the owner himself or not.

The company said that this extra security feature is introduced to ensure one’s safety and protect them from fraud.

This means that if the 6-digit verification code is compromised, hackers will still have to access another code to steal a WhatsApp account. The new security layer is currently under development and was spotted by the WhatsApp feature tracker.

In March this year, WhatsApp introduced a free open-source browser extension named Code Verify that will let users confirm the authenticity of the WhatsApp Web code being served to their browser.

The extension, when installed, compares the code that runs on WhatsApp Web against that version verified by WhatsApp. In case of any inconsistencies, users are immediately alerted. The extension can be installed like any other browser extension on Chrome, Edge, or Firefox.
