New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has demanded that 10 lakh employees be hired by the federal government in the next 18 months, which might be big news on the job front but also have a major financial impact on the government. The declaration comes at a time when the opposition is focusing on the country's high unemployment rate. The Prime Minister's Office tweeted, "PM assessed the situation of human resources in all departments and ministries and instructed that the government recruit 10 lakh employees in mission mode over the next 1.5 years." As of March 1, 2020, the government reported to Parliament that there are 8.72 lakh empty positions in central government ministries.
