Following spike in Coronavirus cases amid festive season, some state governments have imposed night curfew/restrictions. After Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Manipur, Centre has deputed high-level central teams to Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. For 15th consecutive day, the country reported less than 50,000 fresh daily cases, taking total tally to 90.95 lakh.

In the by-elections in Hindi heartland states including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, BJP fetched excellent numbers. In all three states, the party grabbed more than 2/3 seats. Reacting to party’s performance, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani said, “It’s trailer for upcoming elections, Congress is a sinking ship.”

Taking an indirect swipe on Pakistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said there is an attempt to bring bilateral issues at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO), which is against the consensus and spirit. He said, "It is unfortunate that repeated attempts are being made to unnecessarily bring bilateral issues into the SCO agenda that violate the SCO Charter and Shanghai Spirit. Such efforts are contrary to the spirit of consensus and cooperation that defines SCO."

Counting of votes polled in Bihar Assembly elections began at 8 am on Tuesday at 55 counting centres across 38 districts of the state.
