New Delhi: Mohammed Rao Iqrar held aloft the Indian Tricolor and exhorted people to join him in a march for ‘peace’ as a JCB excavator retreated from the capital’s Shaheen Bagh district Monday. Many locals, however, believe that the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, which targeted the Muslim-dominated neighbourhood in an ‘anti-encroachment drive,’ is to blame for the disruption of peace and concord. When a ‘JCB’ rolled into the main market area, a large crowd gathered on the streets of Shaheen Bagh — which had become known for a major women’s demonstration against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in 2019-20 — and appeared ready to resist.
