New Delhi: According to persons acquainted with the circumstances, Subhash Shankar Parab, a close aide of fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi, was transferred to India from Cairo on Tuesday morning and arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The 49-year-old, who is considered to be Nirav Modi’s right-hand man and a senior director at the Dubai enterprises Firestar Diamond International Ltd and Diamond R US, was a major figure in the Punjab National Bank (PNB) heist, which amounted to Rs 13,578 crore. In January 2018, he moved to Cairo from Dubai, about the same time when Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi and his families fled India. Parab, who reported directly to Modi, was flown to Mumbai and arrested upon his arrival, as shown by a top CBI officer. He will be detained by police after being brought before a Mumbai court.
