UGC allows students to pursue two full-time degree programmes simultaneously

This is a big reform in the higher education system. According to UGC head M Jagadesh Kumar is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which supports multidisciplinary education across disciplines like sciences, social sciences, arts, humanities, and sports.

New Delhi: The University Grants Commission (UGC) stated on Tuesday that college students would be able to take two academic courses at the same time as long as both are at the same level of progress. This is a big reform in the higher education system. According to UGC head, M Jagadesh Kumar is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which supports multidisciplinary education across disciplines like sciences, social sciences, arts, humanities, and sports. “The NEP 2020 advises giving students as much flexibility as possible in personalising and customising their education so that they can receive a multidisciplinary and holistic education across subjects,” says the report. As a result, students who choose to pursue two degrees at the same time will now be able to do so. “It all relies on the pupils’ preferences,” Kumar explained.
