Anti-Abe public opinion always existed in Japan: Chinese mouthpiece’s rant sparks row

The Global Times on its official handle, citing an expert, wrote that anti-Abe opinion always existed in Japan due to many reasons.

New Delhi: Hours after Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was shot in broad daylight leading to his death, the social media was abuzz with Chinese chatter.

Now, the Chinese mouthpiece has taken the discourse to a new level by trying to ‘justify’ the murderous attack by a former member of Japanese Navy. The Global Times on its official handle, citing an expert, wrote that anti-Abe opinion always existed in Japan due to many reasons.

“Although Shinzo Abe has been the longest-serving PM, anti-Abe public opinion has always existed in Japan, including dissatisfaction with the widening wealth gap due to Abenomics, and disgust with his forced adjustment of military policies: expert,” it tweeted while sharing a news article.

The Chinese mouthpiece in another tweet said “the attack on Abe will prompt right-wing forces in Japan to become active and the ripple effect would be seen on its foreign policy including ties with China & the US.”

Shinzo Abe, a conservative was shot and critically injured when shot by an assailant during campaign speech in Western Japan. He was hospitalized with critical injuries and after a few hours passed away.

The gunman was nabbed by the cops. He is said to have served in Japanese Navy and was reportedly discontent with former’s policies. The incident has sent shockwaves not just in Japan but also across the globe. And, this despite the fact that Japan having strictest gun control laws.

Meanwhile, the Chinese foreign ministry has said it was “shocked” by the gun attack at former Japanese premier.

“We hope former prime minister Abe will be out of danger and recover soon,” foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told press.
